First Day in Batipa
May 19th, 2024
Today was our first day at Batipa field institute. It was incredibly hot, and I was almost immediately accosted by mosquitos-- but it was also very beautiful. We're right near the water, so you can look out from almost anywhere and get a glimpse of the ocean.
Everything is green and alive. We've already seen quite a lot of animals; from a troop of monkeys in a mango tree, to a herd of goats kept off to the side of the main clearing. I was excited to hear that a lot of fossils can be found on the beach near Batipa. We were even shown some fossilized mangrove roots, which I thought were really interesting.
